Australia Scholarships 2011

AUD$30,000 Young Australian Entrepreneur Scholarship

Applications for courses commencing in January and July 2011 will open soon!

Le Cordon Bleu - an icon in the international hospitality field - has chosen to implement a very significant scholarship scheme to assist young people in Australia who have chosen the hospitality industry as their career.

The Young Australian Entrepeneur Scholarship is based on exclusive relationships between selected Australian high schools and Le Cordon Bleu Australia. The Scholarships are valued at AUD$30,000 towards either of the following degrees:

This scholarship scheme is specifically aimed at assisting young Australians to gain international qualifications that might otherwise be beyond their reach, and students are selected for their passion, dedication and enthusiasm for the hospitality industry.

The scholarship winners will study alongside international students from more than 30 countries including South Korea, the US, Spain and India. Students commence the courses at the Regency Hotel School, while their final six months are based entirely at the University of South Australia's City West campus.

The degrees are also rich in professional experience, with students spending a total of 12 months working as employees within their chosen industry (i.e. restaurants, hotels, convention centres) to gain valuable practical knowledge.

Adelaide is the only place in the world offering these entrepreneurial hospitality management degrees, through Le Cordon Bleu and partnering institute, the University of South Australia.

Scholarship Entry Criteria

Scholarship recipient must:

  • be an Australian Citizen or have permanent residency
  • complete and satisfactorily pass Year 12
  • be 17 1/2 years of age by the time of commencement
  • write a 500 word essay outlining their career goals

New Zealand Scholarships

The Daniel Shanahan Memorial Scholarship

Daniel Shanahan was a student of St. Kentigern College – Pakuranga & the Auckland Hotel & Chef School before graduating from the Le Cordon Bleu Bachelor of Business in 2003. Sadly Daniel passed away in 2004 as his hospitality career was just beginning. Daniel was a passionate and enthusiastic student who enjoyed his studies and was an excellent ambassador for Le Cordon Bleu.

A scholarship program was launched at the 2004 Le Cordon Bleu Graduation Ceremony, at the Hilton Adelaide in honour of Daniel. The program aims to assist other young New Zealand residents who have chosen the hospitality industry as their career to pursue their dreams.

International Bachelor Degree Scholarships

AUD$10,000 International Student Scholarship – 2 Per Country

Scholarships are currently available to international students not currently living in Australia to attend Le Cordon Bleu Australia. These scholarships are valued at AUD$10,000 and are aimed towards the Restaurant stream of the Bachelor degrees.

There are two scholarships available for each country - per intake (January and July)

The scholarship tuition fee will be allocated across the duration of the program;
Stage 1=$3,000
Stage 3=$3,000
Stage 5=$4,000

Individuals with a passion for hospitality and pursuing a career in the dynamic field of hospitality, particularly focusing on food & beverage management are encouraged to apply.

Scholarships are not awarded on a purely academic basis but a proven interest in the field of hospitality. Any background study or work experience with be viewed favourably.

Criteria for entry

  • Scholarship recipients must commence Stage 1 – no credit will given for prior learning
  • Applicants must
    • be 18 years of age or over
    • have completed 12 years of formal education
    • provide financial evidence that funds are available to complete full 2.5 year program
    • demonstrate a passion and desire to pursue and establish a career in the hospitality management industry – with a written submission (500 words minimum)

Essay Topic - Why I want to study hospitality?

The essay will:

  • be attached to the formal Application Form
  • be submitted with a reference supporting the application from their education institution or industry contact

All applications will be assessed and scholarship recipients decided by Le Cordon Bleu
All scholarship winners will be notified in writing

  • Scholarships are available for July and January intakes and students can select when they wish to commence studies

Applications close

  • Australian Government Visa Assessment Levels 1 & 2 - July Intake 31st May/ January intake 30 November.
  • Australian Government Visa Assessment Levels 3 & 4 - July Intake 30th April / January intake 31 October.

Industry Association Scholarships

Le Cordon Bleu Australia offers the following scholarships each year in collaboration with various industry associations.

The Culinary Trust

In 2011 The Culinary Trust and Le Cordon Bleu Australia are offering a partial tuition scholarship of $5000 towards the Masters of International Hospitality Management in our Adelaide school. The scholarship applications must be in to the Trust by the 1st of March 2011, with the winner being able to come into the MIHM program in the July 2011 or January 2012 intake.

The James Beard Foundation

In 2011, 1 Scholarship for the MBA (International Hotel & Restaurant Management) and 1 for the Masters of International Hospitality Management is available through the James Beard Foundation and Le Cordon Bleu.

The Foundation is awarding a scholarship to cover the tuition of the Graduate Certificate in International Hospitality Management of the Master of International Hospitality Management at a value of AUD$12,440 and one for partial tuition of the MBA of AUD$5000.

Scholarships that are awarded for the MBA program can be accepted for entry in the September, January, April or July intake. The Master of International Hospitality scholarships are for the January or July intake.

Most scholarships will require the following information:

  • Educational History
  • History of Other Scholarships or Grants Received
  • Work or Apprenticeship History
  • Statement of Culinary Goals (with some scholarships; 500 words or less)
  • Financial Statement and copy of most recent Federal Income Tax return
  • Two Letters of Reference: one professional or educational; one personal

Please ensure that you meet the Le Cordon Bleu course entry requirements before applying for the Scholarship. Scholarship covers tuition fees only.

Endeavour Postgraduate Awards

The Endeavour Postgraduate Awards provide financial support for international students for up to 3 years to undertake a postgraduate qualification at a Masters or PhD level either by coursework or research in any field of study in Australia.

The Endeavour Postgraduate Awards aim to:

  • enable high achieving international students to undertake a postgraduate qualification either by coursework or research in their chosen field of study in Australia
  • strengthen bilateral ties between Australia and the participating countries
  • showcase Australia’s education sector
  • strengthen mutual understanding between the people of Australia and Award Holders' home countries
  • build international linkages and networks.

Mature Age Scholarships

Le Cordon Bleu has recently introduced its Mature Age Scholarships, which are specifically aimed at assisting Mature Age Australians to gain international qualifications that might otherwise be beyond their reach.

These scholarships are available for our following Bachelor Degrees:

Adelaide

Sydney

Students are selected for their passion, dedication and enthusiasm for the Hospitality industry.

Conditions of the Le Cordon Bleu Scholarship

  1. The scholarship recipient must meet the entry criteria and if at any time during the duration of the scholarship, the information supplied in the application process is proven false, the scholarship shall be terminated immediately.
  2. The scholarship recipient must successfully meet the study requirements of each stage to be warded the scholarship in the following years.
  3. If the scholarship recipient fails any subject during the course of their studies, they are financially responsible for any re-enrolment costs and fees.
  4. The scholarship is not transferable and the student must commence the programme in January or July in the same year for which the scholarship was awarded.
  5. The scholarship applicant must be enrolled on a full-time basis.
  6. Students may commence studies in either January or July of year granted.

Scholarship Entry Criteria Scholarship recipient must:

  • be an Australian Citizen or have permanent residency
  • meet all entry criteria for the Bachelor Degrees
  • be a minimum 20 years of age by the time of commencement

Scholarship Application Process The following documents must be completed and sent to Le Cordon Bleu Australia:

  1. A completed Application Form available from the prospectus.
  2. A certified copy of all supporting documents as outlined on the application form.
