Le Cordon Bleu Master of Gastronomic Tourism

An online course designed to explore every facet of the food and wine tourism experience.

Students with internet access and a passion for gastronomy and tourism will be able to study this course from anywhere in the world, networking with like-minded individuals and studying topics including contemporary trends in cuisine and culinary arts, food writing for media, festival and event planning and design, the history of gastronomy and the restaurant, small business management, sustainable food production and tourism business, marketing food and wine tourism and food and drink in literature, art and film.

This course, delivered online in association with Southern Cross University, is designed to support and enhance understanding of the gastronomic tourism experience and to study all facets of how food and drink interconnect in our lives… that’s agriculture, economy, health, politics, sustainability, cultural traditions, social values and more. ‘Food’ is simply a brilliant way to study the world, cultural difference and history, while at the same time learning how to give pleasure and to increase our own sense of satisfaction. Importantly, the degree focuses on the relationship of food to tourism and the role this relationship plays in the development of regional economies and their sustainability. In addition,, students also get the added benefit of studying management, marketing and other industry-focused subjects, within a hospitality and tourism context.

Entry Criteria
  • Academic qualifications assessed equivalent to an Australian Bachelor’s degree

Or

  • Applicants with no formal qualifications who demonstrate academic or professional standing considered by the Head of School to be equivalent to the Bachelor degree requirement will also be eligible for admission. Applicants accepted on this basis will initially be admitted for the Graduate Certificate of Gastronomic Tourism.
  • English language proficiency - All applicants for admission to Southern Cross University must meet the University's English language requirement for admission irrespective of study location or study mode. For details on SCU English language proficiency requirements External Website.
Admissions

To apply for the Le Cordon Bleu Master of Gastronomic Tourism, Graduate Diploma of Gastronomic Tourism or Graduate Certificate of Gastronomic Tourism applicants must complete the application process, providing certified academic transcripts and other relevant documentation.  Please visit Programs & Apply for further details. 

Fees

The cost is AUD$2,500 per unit or AUD$30,000* for the full Le Cordon Bleu Master of Gastronomic Tourism (12 units). Australian citizens may be eligible for FEE-Help.

Australian citizens will also need to pay a Student Services and Amenities Fee (SSAF). Please see the Student Services and Amenities Fee webpage External Website published by the Department of Industry, Innovation, Science, Research and Tertiary Education for more detail.

*New pricing for 2015 is $31,800 or $2,650 per unit.

Course Duration

Students can study up to two units each session (previously called trimester). Each year consists of three sessions.  Each session is approximately 13 weeks in duration. Students can complete their studies in two years (two units per session) or four years (one unit per session).

To qualify for the Le Cordon Bleu Master of Gastronomic Tourism a total of 144 credit points (Part A units plus 6 Part B units) must be completed. Below is a list of units currently available.

Time Requirements

Students should anticipate a commitment of no less than 15 hours per unit per week.  Thus a student studying two units can expect to study no less than 30 hours per week. Students planning to undertake this program need to allow extra time initially to familiarise themselves with the study portal, learning resources, professional referencing and writing at postgraduate level.

To undertake the program students must have fast and reliable internet access.

Intakes

Students can commence in Session 1 (February) Session 2 (June)   or Session 3 (October).

Scholarships

Four partial tuition scholarships (valued at AUD$5000 each) are offered annually for this program to support talented individuals from all over the world in their pursuit of gastronomic knowledge and education. Students applying for these scholarships need to meet the eligibility criteria for the program. In 2015 we will be offering a new professional development scholarship for media professionals.

Scholarships for 2014 for this program are now closed. The 2015 Scholarships program is now open and applications are being accepted until November 2015.
